Small lips on guys are nothing to be ashamed of. In fact, many people think they're sexy! But some men prefer their lips to be bigger. Others are worried about kissing someone whose lips are bigger and how their small lips will feel to the other person. This article will help you build your confidence with tips for enhancing small lips and kissing with them. We'll also explore if small lips on guys are attractive and if you should be worried about your lip size as a guy, with expert advice from makeup artists, relationship coaches, and a board-certified plastic surgeon.

Best Tips for Guys Who Have Small Lips

Master cosmetologist Shun Pittman suggests using a lip scrub to exfoliate and plump your lips naturally. Other ways to enhance small lips are hydrating them, contouring them with makeup, and injecting fillers. Some people think small lips on guys are attractive, though, so consider embracing them!

How to Enhance Small Lips for Guys

  1. Pittman's favorite way to enlarge small lips is using a lip scrub. Not only does the scrub exfoliate your lips to remove dead, dry skin, she says, but it also stimulates blood circulation. This brings blood to the surface of your lips and makes them plump naturally.[1]
    • Exfoliate your lips once a week to help get rid of dead skin, says professional makeup artist Erica Coates.[2]
    • How to make a lip scrub: Combine 2 parts sugar, 1 part salt, a little bit of olive oil to bind the ingredients, and 1-2 drops of lemon juice.
    • To apply: Gently rub the lip scrub into your lips with your finger for about 30 seconds, then rinse it off with lukewarm water.[3]

Apply a lip product with peppermint oil. Another natural way to make your lips appear larger, says Pittman, is to apply lip balm or another lip product with peppermint oil in it. The mint creates a "tingling" sensation, which causes the lip to plump up.[4]

Grow a mustache. If you're able to grow facial hair, a well-groomed mustache can go a long way to making your small lips—and your entire face—more handsome and sexy! When choosing a mustache style, consider these factors:
    • Lip coverage: How much of your upper lip do you want your mustache to hang over? For example, a pencil mustache will reveal your whole mouth, whereas a walrus mustache conceals your upper lip completely.
    • Time to grow: How long do you want to wait for your mustache to grow out? For example, a long, thick mustache like the horseshoe will take longer to grow than a handlebar.
    • Grooming and trimming: The longer and more styled your mustache, the more time it will take to maintain. Keep that in mind when choosing between styles like the Hungarian, which has pointed, turned-up ends, and the chevron, which requires only basic trimming.
      • The neater and more well-groomed your mustache and beard are, the bigger your lips will look. So keep your facial hair well-maintained!

Highlight or contour your lips with makeup. Not all guys are open to wearing makeup, but for those who are, remember that a little goes a long way. According to makeup artist Yuka Arora, you can enhance your small lips by highlighting your cupid's bow. Use concealer if you only want to brighten your skin, and use highlighter makeup if you want a little shimmer. "Another trick to make your lips look fuller," she says, is to "contour your lips. You take the contour shade and lightly create a shadow right under your bottom lip in the center… if the shadow is bigger, your lips look bigger."[5]
    • If highlighting your cupid's bow: Choose a concealer that's 2-3 shades lighter than your skin color.
    • If contouring your bottom lip: Choose a contour product that's 4-5 shades darker than your skin color.
    • To apply: Use a small angled makeup brush for more precision, and don't forget to blend the edges of the product into your skin!

Get lip fillers to make your lips bigger temporarily. If you want a solution for enlarging your lips that lasts longer than natural lip plumpers or makeup, dermal fillers may be right for you. A licensed dermatologist or plastic surgeon can inject a small amount of a natural substance called hyaluronic acid (HA) into your lips to make them look bigger. The effects typically last for 12-18 months, at which point the HA will begin to dissolve and you may need to get more injections.[6]

How to Kiss When You Have Small Lips

  1. Relationship coach Maya Diamond, MA says, "I think it's great if the man is leading the kiss." Initiating contact and moving your lips first shows confidence in your masculinity and your ability to please your partner, regardless of your lip size. At the same time, make sure you're "tuning into" your partner's needs and "not overly aggressively forcing the kiss."[10] Whatever you're doing, you should both enjoy it!
  2. 2
Use your tongue. Connect with your partner more by opening your mouth and using your tongue, Diamond suggests. Move your head while caressing their tongue and the inside of their mouth. Avoid pushing your tongue down their throat, since they might "end up feeling overwhelmed by that."[11] If they lean into the kiss, you know you're doing it right!
  3. 3
Go slow and stay calm. According to dating and relationship coach David Chambers, it's important to slow down and remain calm when doing something sexual like kissing. When we're anxious or nervous, we tend to "speed up" our kisses or other touches, and that can lead to an uncomfortable experience for both parties. To improve your kissing, Chambers recommends "no fast, jerky movements" and giving the other person time to see you coming in for a kiss, so they can respond positively to your advances.[12]

Are small lips attractive on guys?

PDF download Download Article
  1. Yes, many people, including women, are attracted to guys with small lips. How attractive lips are is completely subjective. One person may prefer big lips on a guy, whereas another might prefer thin lips. In fact, many supermodels, actors, and other "sexy" male celebrities have thin lips.
    • Male celebrities with thin lips include actors Timothee Chalamet (Dune, Wonka), Robert Pattinson (The Twilight Saga, The Batman), and Tom Hiddleston (Loki, The Life of Chuck).

  1. Most people you date won't notice or care that your lips are small, even if theirs are a different lip shape. If they do notice them, they might find them attractive.
